Whether your monitor will benefit from calibration depends on how you want to use it. If you're only using it for surfing the net, social media, and composing emails and other texts, then I don't think it would be worthwhile to calibrate it. If you're using it for viewing and editing photos and videos, then there will be some benefit, probably quite a bit of benefit. The controls you mention should allow you to bring the monitor into pretty good calibration. Follow the directions on whatever calibration package you purchase. Stay with gamma 2.2, which is probably the default for your new monitor. If the default isn't gamma 2.2, consider changing to that gamma.
