[photoshop-beginners] Re: Opacity/tone



By "tone" do you mean hue (the color), saturation (full color to gray) or value (white to black)?
If value, make a temporary layer, desaturate it, copy it and use that to create your mask.
If color, make temporary layer, select by color, invert selection clear and fill with black, invert selection again, set foreground and background to white and black and then gradient map the selection. Deselect, copy the layer and use that to create your mask.
If saturation, you need to create three masks from the R,G and B channels. They are already gradient mapped by saturation.
