[photoshop-beginners] Actions??

I have PS Cs5 on a PC. Could someone please send me a link [or 2] as to how to use actions? For some reason I just can't seem to get it through my head as to how to use them. I have several loaded & they are just waiting for me to use them. I've used PS for several years but this just throws me off.      Thank you!! Betty
