[photoshop-beginners] Delete XMP Files?

I have alot of XMP Files in Recycle bin. Not sure what they represent. I have deleted many images from WLPG & Pictures Library, but do not know if these files represent the deleted images or some other images. They are in a C:\ File - Pictures\My Catalog\CAXMP Files 7-8KB (or were and all have same date.) I may have deleted the entire catalog by mistake so wonder how to handle these files - delete them from recycle bin or restore them. Never encountered XMP Files with other deleted images and did empty images (w/o XMP File) from recycle bin. All advice/experiences welcome, thanx, Trish
