My font is set to points

Go to EDIT at the top of your toolbar and then down to PREFERENCES and then look for UNIT or UNIT and RULERS and the set your font to POINTS as viewed in this photo.

Can someone please help me with a problem I'm having can't seem to find an answer. I'm using Photoshop CS2 and I tried adding text to an image. Trouble is that even at 72 pt the text is only about ¼ " tall. I can type in a bigger number which will increase the font size, but I believe at 72 that my font should be huge. At 10pt. I can can hardly see my text My file size is 7.14 MB .
