[photoshop-beginners] Font size question

Can someone please help me with a problem I’m having can’t seem to find an answer. I’m using Photoshop CS2 and I tried adding text to an image.  Trouble is that even at 72 pt the text is only about ¼ “ tall. I can type in a bigger number which will increase the font size, but I believe at 72  that my font should be huge. At 10pt. I can can hardly  see my text  My file size is 7.14 MB .
