Another option is foam core board this is inexpensive and is easy to cut with a craft or box knife. I used it to make a large doll house for my grand daughter which is sort of like a large box. I think I bought half inch thick and it came in reasonably sized sheets it is also used to make the background for science fair projects ands is easyly found at craft and hobby shops.
