RE: RE: [photoshop-beginners] cropping

Thank you for your help. I am using CS2.

I can do what you said and cut off the corner by rotating the image, but I then need to extend the crop box out to make sure I have the rest of the photo. Then I crop it. The photo then appears to include all the white areas outside the photo. I then rotated it back to horizontal and it is fine, the corner is gone BUT the corner is now white and again part of the photo. What am I missing here  <G>

Thanks, Steve

It is fairly simple, depending on which version of Photoshop you have.  If you have CS6 or CS CC, select your crop tool. When the crop grid appears, move your cursor outside of the grid, and it will change into an arc with arrows at each end.  When these are visible, can rotate your image to the angle you want to crop at.  When the cursor is inside the grid, it is an arrow, this will allow you to slide your image around to get the crop right. So, to get the crop you want, you slide and rotate your image.

The crop system in PS6 and CC is new, I am not sure which version of PS it started in. As I said, in CS6 and CC you slide and rotate the image behind the grid to get what you want. In older versions, you the image remains fixed and you slide and rotate the grid to get the crop you  want. Adobe found that most photographers preferred to move the image around and leave the grid fixed. They made this change in CS6, Or 5, or 4.

Remember, cursor outside the grid to rotate image or grid, cursor inside grid to slide image or grid.

How do you crop just a corner of a photo on an angle ?   All I can find is to crop in rectangles, must be a way to just snip off a corner on a given angle!
Thanks, Steve
