[photoshop-beginners] PS CS6 issues

there are some issues with my PS CS6 (CC now). for one thing, i always have to enable all readable documents. another is if i want to save an image as a .jpg, or a .tiff, i get these weird
things like IFF. i called Adobe, and she told me to hold the the Shift key (Mac), and the trouble vanished. so, i know it is process of elimination. but, it seems like i pulled every 3rd party plug-in and the problem persists. any chance of anyone being able to help me.
