Sometimes asking questions leads to figuring out my own solutions.
I have discovered one way save as a .jpg (perhaps there are other ways too)...it was a hunt and peck discovery, but it worked!
Within hours of asking about a simplified instruction book, I scored a pristine, copy of "Photoshop CS for Dummies" from a local thrift shop.
