Re: [photoshop-beginners] Re: Photo and Text Photoshop Tutorials

Please no one take this to heart, just wanted to share this because actually I cannot believe that this conversation went as far as it did about a website development name but just to clarify a little of what has been said and asked and from what I have researched is below for anyone interested.

Etsy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Etsy is an e-commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items as well as art and craft supplies. These items cover a wide range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, food, bath and beauty products, quilts, knick-knacks, and toys. Many individuals also sell craft supplies such as beads, wire, and jewelry-making tools. All vintage items must be at least 20 years old.[1] The site follows in the tradition of open craft fairs, giving sellers personal storefronts where they list their goods for a fee of $0.20.[2]
The site was launched on June 18, 2005 by iospace, a small company composed of Robert Kalin, Chris Maguire, and Haim Schoppik. The initial version had taken two and a half months to build.[3] Later Jared Tarbell joined the team. Former NPR executive Maria Thomas joined as COO in 2008, was promoted to CEO and left Etsy in December 2009. Robert Kalin resumed his role as CEO from December 2009 until July 2011.[4] Investors include Sean Meenan, Spencer and Judson Ain, Union Square Ventures, and founders of Flickr and Delicious.[5]
Kalin said that he named the site Etsy because he "wanted a nonsense word because I wanted to build the brand from scratch. I was watching Fellini's 8 ½ and writing down what I was hearing. In Italian, you say 'etsi' a lot. It means 'oh, yes.' And in Latin, it means 'and if.'"[6]

rj, the point is that names do not always mean something...most of us could care less if Etsy means anything or not. By all means, lets move on to photoshop.  To make this more relevant to our group, I have to say that Etsy has photoshop brushes, templates, actions shapes and frames. It is the handmade of ebay...what is not to like? Yes, you do have the right to be paranoid.                        NH

rj is short for RiJo.  Ri and Jo are the first two letters of my sons names. Richard and Jonathan.
I care what Etsy means if it is the subject of something hidden.... and it is.

I wonder why all the defensiveness about this name from participants of a photoshop group.
Isn't everyone entitled to their own opinions?
Shouldn't we be talking about photoshop stuff before Skulldrinker starts to kick our ass.

No need for the bewilderment Candace, to each his own.
If you will notice I said "leads ME..." and  "I'M staying away...".
RE:
"And what about the name Etsy? Where does it come from? Ah, that is the mystery. There's been a thread about that question for more than a year and a half on the Etsy forum. Etsy developer Rokali/Rob has done nothing to clear the mystery up, and has even cranked up his own fog machine"

If the public has concerns about the name of a business, and that business cannot or will not explain their name, indeed further cloud the name, why should I trust that business? What if I asked that business about products? Are they going to fog their explanations? How would I know .... they cloud the information about something as simple as their name?  I'm saying when you're in business you need to be customer oriented. Playing elementary hide & seek games with the customer will reduce your odds of growth success.
Would you still do business if the name Etsy was an acronym for Every Terrorist Slays Yanks. (Yank being the slang for Americans) ?
How do you know it doesn't?

What are you talking about rj? Etsy is a legit online marketplace that has been in existence for a long time. Many artists and suppliers make a living with their Etsy shops and it is a great place to find just about anything hand made or supplies to make things. I have had a shop for a number of years.

I'm flummoxed at your reaction.

LOL ... I have the same question John ... so I googled it.
OMG!  what a load of BS!
Since they are reluctant to clear up such a simple thing as their name leads me to believe that have other things they might hide.
I'm staying away from them.

:o)
