[photoshop-beginners] rectangle outline

I am flummoxed...I hope someone will help.  I am trying to create a fine line outline of a rectangle or square.Using CS4, I select the rectangle marquee tool, create the shape, then edit>stroke, select 1 pixel and the result is a shadowed line. I don't know where to go to change this result. I just want a plain line.

 

Any help is appreciated....
