[photoshop-beginners] MINIMIZE

Hello,When I minimize a Photo in Elements I get a little Oblong box at the bottom containing the item I minimized,but elemnts is still there.
When I do this on CS3 the whole of the page dissappears so I am unable to do anything in CS3.Is this right?Hope some body can help me.Thankyou
