If you want the background transparent, just start with a transparent background.

Go to FILE>NEW> and when the dialogue box pops up, there should be a place to check which BACKGROUND CONTENTS you want....and in the little drop-down box should be Transparent as one of the choices.  So preserve the transparency, I'd save the file as a .PNG when you're done.

Is there a simple way to make the background color of a graphic transparent in ps5?

IE: Background = solid white
Foreground = (colored text) CAT
Problem = make the white transparent.
