When I asked the question ( early Monday morning) I had not found a way to do it.
By early Tuesday morning I had been instructed on how to do it outside of PS.
The process works flawlessly so my need has been met.

So, if you have completed this, what exactly are you further trying to do? Sorry, I am not quite understanding.

I was trying (have completed) a process to make watermarks (signatures)  for photographs.
The process is reversible.  Lets assume the letter "D" is your watermark.
The watermark could be placed on the photograph with the D transparent
or you could place the watermark on the photograph with the background
transparent and only the D visible.

Is there a simple way to make the background color of a graphic transparent in ps5?

IE: Background = solid white
Foreground = (colored text) CAT
Problem = make the white transparent.
