RE: [photoshop-beginners] a real mystery - unsharp mask

Here is a good explanation on how the unsharp mask go it's name.

As with many things in the digital darkroom (read as Photoshop) it has it's origin in an old chemical film darkroom.

Where did they get this name? Every time I try to unsharppen a photo with this is just gets better? Another strange one- I rarely use- is High Pass sharpen - strangely named but two very wonderful methods of improving the quality of a photo - the default setting on unsharp mask work just fine for me and I use it frequently.

The wonderful thing with photoshop is the undo & cancel options.
