[photoshop-beginners] Film & digital editing

When I bought my first SLR at age 54 I bought what I could afford a used Konica that came with a couple lenses. It was camera, choice of lens, light meter, tripod and pray - because I had my film developed at the drug store - then pick out the best.
I moved to a real cheap digital in '99 and used Arcsoft editing, up graded the camera a couple times and got PS5, In 04 I upgraded to a Lumix FZ3 -Wow optical Zoom -Digital Zoom, image stabelszing and auto bracketing - that sure cut down the size of a camera bag.
Now I had trouble with all the dials and settings on a film SLR I sure have to keep my manuel handy with my FZ18 -to keep from shooting everthing in "Smart Auto" mode. What is am saying is I do take all my keeper shots into PS and do a few things with each one. sharpen, contrast to 18% and maybe levels. I find no matter how good the photo these always help.
