Thanx, I did do that. The resolution of the original was the same as after I cropped it - 300. I don't understand why the cropped is not as crisp focus as the original. TrisheBear

I'm not sure about Elements, but in PS, when you select the crop tool, across the top of the screen are boxes in which you can enter desired width, height and resolution of the crop. My guess is that your PSE8 defaults to 72 resolution, while the actual resolution of your downloaded photo is higher. Thus, when you crop, the result is way lower resolution and therefore fuzzy. So enter 180 or, preferably 300, in the resolution box and your results should be much better. Hope this helps.
