These look like a de-saturated plus subtle sepia-toning. I've seen lots of people selling actions for this kind of effect.
I'd start off by trying this:
Make a copy of your background layer. De-saturate, but not all the way. Go to the Black-and-white adjustment. Chose the tone option and find a nice brown tone. Set the opacity to where it looks good. I'd play with putting a texture overlay on it, too. Again, subtle, with the opacity down, so you get just a hint of a distressed look.
Of course, you could always put a burnt or smudged border on it, too, but you don't want to go too far.
I just wrote this on-the-fly, so if you'd like more specific steps, I'd be happy to play with an image and get specificabout what I do.
