Ardith,
Thanks for the advice. I will do that. I wonder though, is the escape not supposed to cancel the operation?

Hi!
I just joined this group and am looking forward to learning a lot here and hope to be able to help someone else in the future (the distant future, I'm afraid).
I have been using Photoshop Elements 6 and a few days ago installed PS CS5 Ext. There's a bit of a learning curve, to say the least. I have two initial questions about the program. I was using the magic wand tool and tried to use the escape key to cancel the function, but nothing happens. It seems that the escape key works on some functions, but not on others. Is that normal or is there something wrong with my program or settings, or maybe my operating system. I'm using XP Professional and have 2MB of RAM.***I wouldn't use the escape key. Let the magic wand finish and if you don't want it you can do Ctrl+Z to go back or use the History Palette and click on the action above the majic wand. Or just do Ctrl+D to deselect.
My second question applies to saving a file. I saved a file as a psd, emailed it to my sister, who has the same version of PS as I, and she cannot open it. When I look at the thumbnail, it shows a white box with black lines and I thought the file was corrupted, but I am able to open it with no problem. After playing with a couple more pictures, it seems to happen only when I have used the refine edge tool. I can use the other tools and it saves normally and the thumbnail looks normal.Don't have an answer for this one. Maybe somebody else does.

Does anyone know what could be happening? I'm hoping that I'm doing something wrong because that will be easier to fix.
