Re: [photoshop-beginners] I need Help

The constrain box tells the software to upsize, or downsize, all sides equally.  Without that, then anything you stretch or shrink will end up distorted, unless  you have a REALLY sharp eye and can get it right just because. The aspect ratio, for example of a 4x6 photo has an aspect ratio of 3:2 and an 8x10 is 5:4.  You can't turn the whole image into a perfect square without either cutting off part of the image OR adding white to the short sides.  Even if you bought this $10 software you speak of, it can't convert stuff without some sort of distortion or something else either....at least I don't see how.  a 4x6 just will not fit into a 4x4 no matter how you do it without sacrificing something.

You can crop your image square...of course trying to get as much of the good parts in the square as you can, or put your oddball sized pic into your square and then hopefully be able to clone in, or by some other method, data from the photo to fill in the white zones you'll end up with should you decide to keep your whole image and not crop it square.

Quark won't make a rectangle fit into a square either.  Quark is basically a page layout software...newspapers, etc.

I've saved your photo to toss it into PS to see how far off you are, etc...

Hi
So even if I used aspect ratio  which to me is confusing since if you
check the constrain box the hight won't match... So do you think i should
buy the software for this jewelery making it says will fit any picture
perfect.. the cost is only 9.98... also would Quark be a better program
for doing this sort of sizing
Thanks

Unless the photo you have is a perfect square, it will never work inside a
perfect square if you transform or stretch the pic to FIT in  your
perfect square.

Is like forming a box into a round hole....doesn' t match up right....

Hi All
I posted a qestion yesterday and didn't see it posted. Here I go again
explaining my problem.. I take my own photo's and I've reduced them to
0.8750 for both the width & hight the reason I do this  size so the
photos will fit the crystal glass square I use for making jewelery. Then I
open a new canvas to same size and drag the reduced photo to the new
canvas. Then I undo the original photo. My problem is Most of the photos
look fine but I've had some remarks that some look distored... So how can
I fix this problem
Thanks
Michele

I thought you did a beautiful job with the photo. I also want to thank you
for all the information you have just sent in about the flower and how you
did it. Thanks for  for including the information on your web page. This
will come in handy as I using photoshop.

I took a picture of a flower growing in my backyard and played with it in
Photoshop CS5.  Don't think I used anything that hasn't been available in
many previous versions of PS.  If you want to take a peek, go to
http://www.joetanse y.com/flower.  It's just two pictures, before and
after.
There is also a link to download the layered psd file which is 11.5
megs.  I kind of like the results.
