Subject: [photoshop-beginners] A birthday picture
Have you ever gone to a birthday party with your camera and taken pictures? Sure you have and did you ever think about putting them into a decorative frame to commemorate the occasion? When I was given the job of running the photo booth at the Indianapolis Zoo doing green screen photography, I was forced to learn PS with out any experience as we had to make our own templates using PS. We did have another software program to do the green screen application and printing but adjustments were done using Photoshop 5.5. Remember the horrible text function there? One of the things the Zoo did was to have birthday parties for kids and as a memento of the party the party group was given one picture with the ability to purchase more. Think most of them took the freebie (not really free as it was built into the cost of the party) and then scanned it. It was fun taking the pictures of the kids but kind of difficult to get them to pose for the picture. I made a frame that had to place holders for pictures. I took a picture of the birthday kid and one of the birthday group and placed them in the frame, printed the picture, and gave it to the mom or day before the party was over. They really enjoyed it. Our software did the actual placing of the pictures in the frame so Photoshop was not involved in that process. But it was involved in the creation of the frame. I have created a link to the PSD file that, if you want, you can use for your own birthday party. The PSD file is editable so that names and dates can be added. The PSD file is large, 55 mgb. Here is the link:
There is an example of a finished product and a screen shot of the layers so you don't have to download the PSD file to see what the results would be.
I hope someone enjoys the file and can learn from it. If you have any questions email me directly or through the group.

PS: the party pictures were actual pictures taken at a birthday party.
