[photoshop-beginners] External hard drive

I have a WD Elements 1TB/To External hard drive.I have just used it for the first time putting on 95GB of photos (about 900 photos)Camera is
canon 5MKII.The question is when i play back half are blank white squares that when you click on them you get all information about each
Photo(Numbers,Letters and words that make no sense)then the remainder are the photos,Any idea what the white squares are and can i get rid of them as i would think they are taking up space.Thankyou BigJohn UK
