Re: [photoshop-beginners] Help with Removing Background

I usually go around the edge with an eraser set to around 35% opacity (sometimes more, sometimes less) to soften it a bit.

Thanks. I got it to work but I still have a very crisp edge around the background. Looks a bit as it is pasted on paper. If I feather it when I remove the background, I end up with a white line around the image.

There is probably an easier way, but I would first try using the Magic Wand to select the background and change the background to black or white (or whatever color you want).  You may have to use the magic Wand on several areas of the background that are not contiguous.  Eventually, you will have selected all the areas that need erased.

Do a search for "removing background" at help.adobe.com  and you will probably find more than enough tutorials on how to do it.  Stay tuned and Joe Tansey will probably have a tutorial on it!!!

Help! I recently got PhotoShop CS4 and am about to use it to change two photos for a friend. The version I had before was Version 7!!! It's also been a long time sinc I have used PhotoShop and I am not sure what I have to do to erase the background and leave the single figure in the foreground. The photos are of a friend's daughter but there are people in the background. She asked me to erase all the background and put a fuzzy edge around her daughter. Can you help?
