[photoshop-beginners] Can't open any files

 

 

I opened PSE 8 today, but I can't open any files in it. 

I do the regular File>Open browse to the picture I want, click "Open", the dialogue box disappears, but no picture shows up and nothing is in my project bin.

I also can't start a new file. If I try to open a blank file, it just doesn't show up.  The "Image from clipboard" is grayed out even if I have a picture on the clipboard.

 

This has never happened to me before.
