I enrolled in a Photoshop class at the local community college. It cost about $60 two years ago. I'm retired and not an active student otherwise. Once I enrolled in this class I was given a student number. This allowed me to purchase class related items from the college bookstore. I got CS3 student edition for about $130 (full edition - not an upgrade). It was identical to other Photoshops except that when the program started up and you see all the credits and names "Education Version" showed in small print on the screen briefly. Plus I then later purchased the CS4 upgrade edition and it saw the student edition (which it looks for to authorize the upgrade) and CS4 installed and ran without problem. I checked with Adobe about this prior to purchasing the CS4 upgrade and they said its fine to upgrade off of a Student Edition version. Hope this helps.
