I am using a Canon with CR2 RAW files, from my Canon 7D. The instructions for CS4 say to open the Bridge application and select the RAW file. Then click File->Open in Camera RAW.
When I select the RAW file, the "Open in Camera RAW" is grayed out. I can't open it and get an incorrect file type error if I just OPEN the file. This seems to suggest that CR2 isn't supported but according to Adobe and everyone who has this camera, CS4 supports the Canon 7D CR2 file RAW file.
However, if I select the JPG file that is associated with the RAW file, the "Open in Camera RAW" is not grayed out and I can open the file and make changes in the RAW file (I think).
Questions:
1) Why is "Open in Camera RAW" grayed, when I select a RAW file in the Bridge?
2) Am I actually opening the RAW file, when I select the JPG and then Open in Camera RAW? I do see a tool window for changing exposure, lighting and such so I assume it's actually opened the RAW also.
3) Some people shoot RAW only. Having to select the JPG to see the "Open in Camera RAW" seems to imply I must never shoot RAW only. I must be missing something here. Can someone explain the actual process of opening a RAW file, if all you have are RAW files?
