[photoshop-beginners] HDR photomerge

I have tried using HDR in CS3 many times using 2 or 3 exact photos with different exposures. Every time they come out like mud, they are never any beter than I could with a single pic. I must be missing a step because I have seen some really great(clear ) pictures that used HDR.
